gerri young
Gerri Young worked for the Department of Defense in public affairs in Virginia and Germany for many years before retiring in 2010, enabling her to concentrate on her art for the first time. She is a member of the Jacksonville Center for the Arts in Floyd, Va., and of the Blacksburg Regional Art Association in Virginia.
While watercolor is her favorite medium, her curiosity for all things artistic drives her to experiment in many fields and many subjects. She is inspired by nature, texture, and detail, often painting renditions of stone and marble sculptures or using ink to capture the shapes and details of trees. |
Gerri Young has worked in a number of mediums: oil, acrylic, fresco, clay, ink, pencil, stained glass, basketry, textile, paper pulp painting and collage. She has most recently concentrated on watercolor, inspired by two talented instructors in Europe. She has pieces in private collections in Germany, Virginia, New York, Texas and Ohio.
Gerri has studied in the U.S., Germany, and Italy, and worked with a number of talented artists. Examples of such artists include Rita Marlier, Jayn Avery, Kate Anderson, Narashamsa Isaya and Steve Mitchell of Virginia; Monica Perrin and Annie Taillemite of France; and Monika Werle and Teresa Comeaux of Germany. While living in Germany, her art was exhibited at the Hitscherof Festival and won first place in the Fine Arts category of the U.S. Air Force Annual Art Competition at Ramstein. Her work is also currently displayed at the Blacksburg Regional Art Association and, as of December 8th, 2010, in the Student Gallery at the Jacksonville Center for the Arts.
