eleanor levine on her inspiration for "finding father"
“Looking for Father” was originally published in 2007 in Miranda Literary Magazine, an online literary journal.
Eleanor says about the story, “Visiting Dad’s cemetery and then writing about it was like going on a scavenger hunt for your origins.” Eleanor’s father, Jack Levine, was a fiction writer whose work appeared in The Literary Review, Conjunctions, The Jewish Frontier and Midstream Magazine; he also received two New Jersey State of the Arts grants and had a Yaddo residency with David Foster Wallace as a neighbor. “My father taught me how to write. He wrote about the Great Depression whereas I write about depression and other self-indulgent anxieties.”
